Standards and Guidelines: Higher Education - Essential

Higher Education Library Guide Guidelines v VET Library Guide Guidelines

The following conflicts between the guidance is noted below:

  • PDF icons are not included in HE referencing style links.
  • Emojis etc are included in HE referencing style titles, however pipes (eg in YouTube titles) are replaced by colons.
  • Items can reference a particular edition but can link to several editions on the TAFEcat. Don't add "Various editions held" to a reference link.
  • It's ok to have white space on a page-  eg don't split readings boxes to fill up the space.

Academic Subject Guides v Library Guides

TAFE NSW Library Services provide a value add for HE courses by listing available* resources from the Academic Subject Guide in an easy to read layout with an approved referencing format for readings.

A complimentary Higher Education Library Guide is not required for any HE accreditation purposes. Students should always be able to access the current resources for the course through their online course platform.

Unit page content in a library guide is based on the official Academic Subject Guide for the course. Network Owners of each Higher Education guide have access to the Higher Education Learning Bank Collection where copies of the latest Academic Subject Guide and some HE resources should be located. Care should be taken to confirm that this is the latest approved Subject Guide.

*While we endeavour to reflect, link and provide referencing for the entire Academic Subject Guide, we do not:

  • list broken links or unavailable content with or without placeholder text.
  • list items only available via the online course platform.
  • provide links to where resources can be purchased.
  • include links to subscription content other than TAFE NSW subscription services.
  • link to copyright infringing content or copied content that does not include relevant copyright labelling.
  • link to unsafe websites.

regardless if this content is included in the Academic Subject Guide or online course platform.
