Standards and Guidelines: Linking to Images

• Always link to the image on the copyright owner's website or corresponding content. Do not copy or snip the image, as this could be a breach of copyright.
• For cover thumbnails use only image links retrieved from the publisher's or producer's website.
• Do not use the image link to link to other content not related to the original website/content.
• Use an image size that allows you to read the text, if applicable.
• If you change the width and height, do not distort the image. 
• Avoid text wrapping around the images. Adjust image size if required or use Hover over item title. Do not use the Hover over "info" icon for the description display.
• If you display multiple linked images in one box, use the same width for the images.

Right mouse click on the image/logo you want to link to.

• In Google Chrome, select Copy image address from the pop-up window.
• In Edge, select Copy image link.

For Links: Paste the copied image URL at Assign Thumbnail Image in the field Image URL. Add an appropriate width in the field Width. ALT text is not required because the image is linked to go the same website as the link itself.

For items using the Book from the Catalog feature: Under Cover Art select Other from the first drop down menu.

Then paste the image URL to the next field.

" ... embedding is not a copyright activity and therefore you would not need to seek permission from the copyright owner. Embedding a link allows teachers/students to view and access content in its original location (e.g. YouTube clips) without having to leave their website or teaching resource which means you do not need to copy the material in order to make it available on your website or teaching resource."
