Pros and Cons of Using the EBSCO eBook Carousel

Pros

  • The carousel is created based on a search which updates itself.
  • The rotating carousel stops rotating as soon as you hover over it.
  • It displays the full title when you hover over any title.
  • A code is available to display captions as well.
  • You can limit the total number of items displayed easily.
  • You can add other content items to the same box such as databases, links or search boxes above or below the carousel.

Cons

  • Can only be used for EBSCO eBooks.
  • You need to click the link and log in for further information.
  • To achieve a good result list can sometimes be a bit cumbersome. Use subject searches to get more precise results.

Instructions for Adding the Carousel        REQUIRED

  • Please note that these carousel instructions are only available for EBSCO eBooks.
  • Copy and paste the code from the RTF document below to a new document and make the changes required to suit your needs.
  • Use Add/Reorder > Media / Widget to add the for the carousel widget.
  • Name the widget clearly e.g. EBSCO carousel for dummies titles.This will help to find it in the Assets. You can reuse carousels other editors have created or the ones displayed on this page.
  • Please note that it takes a while until the carousel appears.
  • Tip: if the code does not work, you may have corrupted it by deleting portions of code or adding space. Just start over.
