Standards and Guidelines: Gallery Boxes - Book Slide

• Use rotating gallery boxes sparingly because of accessibility and usability concerns.
• Please note that items in gallery boxes don't appear as mapped in the Assets list. Tip: Use the Suggested Books and DVDs - List (Option 2 or Hidden box)  to add the items of your gallery box to get them mapped in the Assets list. Then hide the box. This step is essential for keeping the item in the Assets list when unmapped items are being removed.
• Items must be added to Assets before you can add them to the gallery box (See instructions for Content Items).
• Alternative text is required (See Alt Text instructions).
• Use only one gallery box on a page or no gallery box at all.
• Use one row only.
• A minimum of 3 items is required but no more than 10 items. 5 to 6 items would be optimal. Rather change items more frequently (At least every term).
• Avoid using captions below the cover because they appear clunky.
• Use only items that have a readable cover image.
• Use always links that combine books and eBooks or DVDs and eVideos to capture all available formats for user choice.

Use the instructions below. Title and description will not be displayed if Caption position is set to None.

• Alt text is required for cover art in gallery boxes because it is a functional image that is linked to an record. Considered that no link title is available, we need to add alternative text.
• Copy and paste the Slide Title, which should be the item title, into the Image Alt Text field.
• Make sure that the item title is in the correct format (Check Content item guidelines).

Minimum requirements

• Maximum image height: change to 200px. Don't use percentage because the covers may appear with different heights. 
• Number of rows: keep 1
• Slides per row: change to 10 for the maximum number because that allows you to add up to 10 covers.
• Slides to show: change to 3 because it is the optimum number for covers in a box on a 2 column guide.
• Slide to scroll: keep 1
• Caption position: None is recommended.
