Standards and Guidelines: Subjects

Subjects for LibGuides - Essentials    Required

  • Subjects provide a way to organise guides by subject area.
  • Use only one subject area that best subscribes the guide. 
  • Use a maximum of 2 subject areas if they are equally ranking e.g. Environmental issues in forestry - use Agriculture and horticulture, Environmental studies
  • Do not use subjects for subcategories e.g. Health, Job and study skills - use the main subject area only e.g. Health
  • Currently the category All subjects must be added to all guide additional to the main subject area/s so they appear in the combined subject guide list (https://tafensw.libguides.com/all).

 

How to Add Subjects to Your Guide

  1. Click on the pencil () icon next to the Subjects field at the top of the guide.
  2. In the window that appears, select the subject categories you want to apply from the dropdown.
  3. Tick All subjects and your main subject category.
  4. Don't add tags. Tags are not approved.

Subjects for eResources

  • Subjects provide a way to organise eResources by subject area.
  • Review the current subject list before deciding on selecting subjects.
  • Best Bets: Use to describe the main content of the eResource.
  • Additional Subjects: Use to describe secondary areas that may also apply.
  • Currently the category All subjects must be added to all eResources under Additional Subjects so the eResources appear in the combined eResources list (https://tafensw.libguides.com/all).
