About the TAFE NSW Referencing Guidelines

The Library Service maintains the official referencing guides for TAFE NSW.

Two referencing styles are supported with guides: APA and Harvard (downloaded as pdf).

The Library Service also maintains a TAFE NSW citation generator to support the guides.

We recommend you direct your students to this generator rather than services such as EasyBib or the drop down generators in Word etc. Students should be reminded that citations for resources that can appear on databases, including library databases, may not match the TAFE NSW preferred style.

The TAFE NSW APA referencing guidelines match APA 7. The latest release is January 2022.

The TAFE NSW Harvard guidelines are largely based on the referencing section of the Australian Government Style Manual, 6th edition (AGPS 6). Copies of the manual are available at selected TAFE NSW Libraries.

A new Australian Government Style Manual ( AGPS 7) was published online in late 2020. However, it contains some complex changes to the referencing section that take it away from what has been commonly understood as Harvard style. The decision has been made to continue to base TAFE NSW Harvard style on AGPS 6.

Please note that the TAFE NSW referencing guide is styled as Harvard. It is not styled as Harvard AGPS as this is not an official referencing system.

The guidelines were updated in January 2022.
