Services for Staff: Resources

What is the RAC Model?

The library Resource Access & Curation (RAC) model supports the new TAFE NSW product (course) creation process through the integration of library resource recommendations at the development stage.

It fosters equity of access to all students by ensuring that essential textbooks are purchased for each library where the course is offered and aligns subject areas with Library Networks for the curation of Library Subject Guides.

FAQs - RAC Model

Each Library Network is aligned with a SEN. The Network becomes the statewide library specialist for the subject discipline included in the SEN.

As we have almost 100 libraries across TAFE NSW we have broken them into groups to assist with line reports and management of them. As a teacher you do not need to worry about which Network your local library is part of. You can always ask your local library staff about any query you have. If they cannot answer, or it is not in their scope to answer they will be able to direct your query on appropriately.

Yes, you can ask. The answer of how this item can be purchased for the library depends on the type of resource requested. Please see the questions below for more information.

If the course you need the item for is under development by Product Group you will need to contact your SEN to ensure the textbook you require is listed on the CPBB (Course Product Buy Build) as a Preferred Learning or Primary Learning Resource. In this case Product Group will purchase one copy per student expected to enrol in the course.

If your course is regionally developed or not currently slated for development by Product Group the SEN or TEN will need to fund any textbook requirements. Library Services may be able to assist with purchasing, using your cost centre, from our suppliers to leverage our discounts.

If the title you need has been deemed by the SEN to be an essential resource, i.e. each student needs access but not their own copy, ensure the SEN let the Product Group know this and Library Services will then fund (maximum 3 copies per location where the course is to be delivered). There may be exceptions where Library Services are unable to make the purchase, due to the purchasing model and Product Group will look to purchase.

Talk to the librarian at your college. Each library can choose and purchase titles under volume of learning (VOL) that meet the needs of local students and teachers.

It is not possible to know which library each TD student will use to place resources in that location. If a TD student goes to a library where the resource they need is not held it can be inter library loaned for them. Where large cohorts of TD students are expected to enrol in a course, the Product Group may fund additional copies of textbooks to be housed in libraries.
