Reciprocal Borrowing

Currently enrolled TAFE NSW students living in another state and able to visit a member library may be eligible to participate in the TAFE Libraries National Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme. This is a free service. Please contact your local TAFE NSW Library or Ask a Librarian first for assistance. You will need a current TAFEcard to access this service.

Partner Libraries

Several TAFE NSW Libraries are located or affiliated with other educational or government institutions. If you are a student enrolled at a location with a joint-use facility you may be able to access the resources owned by the other institution.

Services Available to the Community

Those not currently studying with or working for TAFE NSW may be able to access some library services with an Associate Borrower membership. Examples of those who may be eligible to join include members of the local community and ex-students.

Services:

  • Access to physical resources including books, periodical and audio-visual collections from any TAFE NSW Library.
  • Basic reference assistance from staff at the Information Desk.
  • Loan of physical items (limits apply).
  • Reservation services.

Charges:

  • Registration fees apply based on the length of membership required

Library Email Notices for all

Library notices are going paperless!

  • All students whose personal email address has been recorded in TAFE systems now receive notices by email
  • Check that your preferred email address is correctly recorded in the Learning Portal.
  • If your personal email address is not recorded, or is found not to be current, library staff may redirect notices to your TAFE email address
  • For any loans that are longer than 3 days, you will receive a handy emailed reminder to return your items on time or to request a renewal.
  • Use the guide below to forward your TAFE NSW emails to another email account.

Resource Scanning Service

Sometimes you may only need a few pages of an available TAFE NSW library resource. Library staff can provide you with a scan for personal study purposes.

Please note:

  • The resource scan will be sent to you via your TAFE NSW email address.
  • You will need to provide the details of the resource and the chapter/pages/article you would like to have copied.
  • The amount we can copy for you across all TAFE NSW Libraries from a single title is restricted by Australian copyright law. Generally, this will be 10% or one chapter or article.

Loan Limits

Students can borrow up to a total of 10 items

Your Loans

  

  • You can visit any TAFE NSW Library to borrow an item.
  • Ring or email ahead to have the item waiting for you to collect.

  

  • If you can't return your items, please contact the lending library to discuss your options.
  • You can return in person or via external return chutes if available. Details of external return chutes including open times are available on each library's contact page.
  • You can return items (excluding inter-library loans) to any open TAFE NSW Library.

  

  • You can renew an item up to 3 times as long as it is not overdue and no one else has asked for it.
  • Renew online, over the phone or by email.

Inter-Library Loans

TAFE NSW students and staff have access to resources across the Library Network. Resources related to a learner's currently enrolled course or a staff member's work can be requested on inter-library loan from another TAFENSW Library and collected from your closest library location.

Please allow up to one week in the post for the resource to arrive and ensure you return or request a renewal before the item is due.

Renewing Items and Placing Holds

Place holds or renew your library items at My Account. Note: Items available for renewal can be renewed before midnight on the day they are due. 

Log in with your TAFEcard barcode and your library PIN. For more information contact your local library.

You can also renew your items or place items on hold by phone or in person - just contact your local library. Please have your TAFEcard ready.

Returning Items

You can return your items either in person in the library or via the return chutes provided. 

For opening hours or details on out of hour returns, please contact your local library.

Library Fees and Penalties

All libraries in TAFE NSW impose fees for late return of items. You will be suspended from library services including borrowing from all TAFE NSW libraries.
