O'Reilly Support: Searching and Features

Searching and Navigating

As a search term is typed in, a list of suggested topics and titles is automatically generated.

To get a more extensive result list press Enter. This allows the search to be limited by topics or formats such as books, videos, courses, learning paths, playlists and audiobooks.

Reading Books

To select a book - click on the title or the cover, then press the Start button below the book cover. For a specific chapter click on the content icon

Copying, Highlighting and Annotating Text

Highlight, add a note or copy sections of a book. Find the Highlights and Notes on Your O'Reilly in the top right corner of the homepage.

Use the Highlighting feature to help create citations:

  1. Highlight the quotes in the book that require a citation.
  2. Go to the Highlights page under Your O'Reilly  on the homepage.
  3. Select Export all highlights.
  4. The downloaded Excel file includes book title, chapter title, date of highlight, text highlighted and URLs, to start creating the citation.

Watching eVideos

View a video by clicking the Start button below the video or click on the content icon  to go straight to a specific segment. 

On the video player page there are controls for captions (if available), quality settings, full screen and Picture in picture (a small screen that can be used on top of another browser page or any other document).

Most English-language O’Reilly videos offer translated closed captioning in Japanese, Traditional Chinese (Taiwanese), Simplified Chinese, Korean, French, German, and Spanish. Simply click the globe icon in the video player to select a language and choose other captions settings.

These lists can be limited by topics, publishers, publication date and ranking.

Exploring Topics

At the left sidebar on the O'Reilly homepage, click on Explore to access All topics.

Creating Playlists

Create playlists

Organise and save content regardless of the format or topic. Use the playlist icon to add content to a new or existing playlist.

Playlists will be provided on Your O'Reilly on the top right corner on the O'Reilly homepage.

Share playlists

In Your O'Reilly, click on Playlists and select the one that is to be shared. Click the 3 dots and select Share Settings. A playlist may be kept private or shared with others in TAFE NSW or made publicly available on O'Reilly.

Please note that your full name will appear on a shared playlist.

O´Reilly Answers uses advanced machine learning techniques to scan the content of O´Reilly books and videos to find answers.

Click the link below, write a question and press Enter. One or more relevant text snippets from books or transcripts from videos will be presented in a slide show box.
